Hi - I found this item at a local thrift store and hope to find out more about it. It's a handmade cloth angel with real hair (brown, long and wooly) and a face that was drawn on by hand (smiling mouth, rosy cheeks, large dots for eyes, long eyelashes, and two short lines for nostrils). Her body is a legless, armless pillow covered by a much longer, faintly yellowed white cotton smock hand-embroidered with a flowing cursive capital "D". Her skirt is edged with a cotton fishnet strip with a blue border. Her wings are cloth net decorated with gold stars; she hangs from a gold-colored wire hook attached to the middle of her wings. She's about 11 inches long from the crown of her head to the hem of her dress. My parents (born 1929 and 1932) draw women's eyes in the same way - a black dot with little lines for eyelashes around the top.
Here is an enormous photo of it:
Thanks in advance for any help. |
